Parents had an enormous impact on my upbringing, laying the solid foundation which has been instrumental in shaping both my personal and professional life. More on this could be gleaned from the Parents’ Memoirs compiled by me -
My family consists of me, my lovely wife Anupama, and two daughters - Shweta, Arpita, and Max (our son-in-law, Shweta's husband)
After completing my master’s in chemical engineering at URI in 1986, I began my doctoral studies at Case Western Reserve University, where I passed the PhD qualifying exam and completed most of the coursework. However, due to funding issues with my thesis project and an inability to find an alternate funded project aligned with my interests, I had to move on. Fortunately, I was able to return to URI in the fall of 1988 to continue my doctoral studies.
For making this return possible, I will forever be indebted to my MS and PhD thesis advisor and mentor, Prof. Arijit Bose. One particular act of his kindness stands out: during the summer of 1985, while I was working odd jobs to survive, he provided me with financial support to cover living expenses. His generosity and belief in me made a lasting impact.
Prof. Bose’s research philosophy and teaching style have profoundly shaped my professional path. His mentorship not only laid a strong foundation for a career in R&D, innovation, product and technology development
—but also inspired my passion for teaching, mentoring, and professional speaking engagements at conferences, corporate forums, and invited talks.
I also weathered several corporate layoffs, often triggered by bankruptcies or strategic shifts that led to the elimination of my position. During these uncertain times, my better half - Anupama’s unwavering support was instrumental. With her encouragement, I relied on perseverance and creativity to turn each setback into a steppingstone. These pauses in my career allowed me to discover new and often better opportunities
—including a fulfilling path as a consultant (advisor), where I continue to grow and contribute meaningfully.
